2-0! What a great start to the season!
It has become a tradition that TOSH AAA girls volleyball team participates in the annual
Esther Finkle Walk every season. We think this is a great way to 'give back' to the community - it's especially important that we are doing this as a team - it's our hope as coaches that our players not only become good volleyball players but also leaders/role models in the community:)
In exchange for participating in the walk/run(players will run(together)!) players will receive two '
OFF' days:
Friday, October 11th
Tuesday, October 22nd(please change on schedules)
The run will only take about half an hour.
Pledge sheets will be given out at practice this week:)
Some information on the walk:
The
Esther Finkle Fund for Kids was founded in 2000 in honor and memory
of a woman who touched and was touched by the hearts of the children
she worked with, believed in, and journeyed with by making their small
dreams her mission. Esther was always seeking to raise funds for kids
through hot dog sales, or selling tickets on a patchwork quilt, or
other creative means. She believed that these kids, who experienced so
many challenges and whose families were financially limited, should
have the opportunity to find joy in small luxuries that many children
take for granted ie. a pair of Nike basketball sneakers, a tuxedo for
the prom, etc. So too the Esther Finkle Walk for Kids Fund strives to
generate joy and smiles in children by helping them realize a wish, a
longing, or a dream. Children have taught us that the realization of
their smaller dreams are stepping stones in pursuit of their larger
ones.
People say they appreciate applying to the fund because it
is simple and straight forward to use - the fund doesn't require a lot
of information like proof of income nor identifying information about
the child. The Esther Finkle Fund for Kids has 3 main criteria for
applications: the applicant must be an advocate or service provider
(vs. a parent), the child must be under 18 years, and the request must
represent a dream or longing versus a basic need. This fund is meant
for children whose families are in financial need such that they do not
have the means to fulfill the small dream.
